The Norwalk Fire Department responded to the fire around 3:46 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 4 Bayberry Lane, said Norwalk Fire Department Deputy Chief Edward Prescott.

When firefighters arrived, the two-car garage below the ranch-style house was fully involved in fire and extending up the side of the home, Prescott said.

Firefighters' initial fire attack was hampered by an electrical service line arcing after it burned off the house, but despite the slight delay maneuvering the hose lines around the downed wire, the fire was brought under control in about 20 minutes, he added.

One of the owners of the home was outside when firefighters arrived, but her three cats remained inside.

Fortunately, Prescott said, all three were found alive after searching for several minutes. They were taken to a local veterinarian to be checked out.

A Toyota Highlander parked in front of the garage doors also sustained fire damage. Fire and heat damage was primarily in the garage with some extension into the living areas.

The home was posted unfit for occupancy and Fire Marshal Broderick Sawyer is investigating the cause, Prescott said.
